Endodontics

Root canal treatment is needed for teeth that have nerve damage and can’t be repaired. Teeth’s nerves are most commonly damaged by infection from cavities that become too large, which causes the nerve to die. Dr. Smith believes that preserving natural teeth whenever possible should always be the first option for his patients. That is why Dr. Smith has taken several year-long, post-graduate classes in endodontics to ensure he has the expertise to guide and treat his patients. The specialty of Endodontics has evolved and Dr. Smith will inform you of your best options if you need this service.

What is a Root Canal?

When the pulp within your tooth gets infected, it needs to be removed. We carefully remove the infected pulp while you rest easy in our chair. Once the pulp is out, we fill it with a proprietary material and seal it off with a crown. This is to protect the tooth from further damage. It is a common and straight forward procedure, that with modern cone beam diagnostics has become very predictable.  If you need that predictably, Dr. Smith will guide your care.

What Happens if I Don’t Get a Root Canal?

If you have an infected tooth and opt to not have a root canal, you are putting your overall health at risk. As the infection persists, it can lead to more dental damage and even make its way into your blood stream. When we recommend a root canal, we highly discourage opting otherwise.
